PERVERTED REALITIES "Amusing supernatural tales" For those of us who enjoy a touch of "paranormal" in our books, PERVERTED REALITIES has a heaping helping! With spellbinding intrigue, PERVERTED REALITIES takes us to the brink of reason, to the edge where spiritual and physical meet . . . a world unto its own that breathes within the shadows with cartoons that come to life, spirits, ghostly fires and much more. PERVERTED REALITIES is a clever combination of horror and paranormal with a touch of fantasy that cleverly blends together into a strong novel that readers from all three genres will enjoy. The story lines contain humor to ease some of the tension. However, what will amaze the audience is how Jennifer Caress is able to cleverly amuse or frighten the reader from one moment to the next. Three clever tales in one chillingly hypnotic book. A must-read that you will not be able to put down --- just make sure you are not alone. Review by Sheryl S. Soper, owner of www.expressionofself.com I like to think of myself as a fan of science fiction. In fact, Im a broad reader of sci-fi and other related genres. I like to read the classics, as well as modern writers. Heck, Ill even take in a little bit of the paranormal stuff. What I wasnt prepared for was Jennifer Caress and her book, Perverted Realities. And let me tell you I liked it! She writes with a desire for the characters, as well as the story, and its refreshing. The reader actually wants the characters to do well; to succeed. Caress makes you want them to. Shes really that good. Another thing that is impressive about Jennifer is how well she blends genres. For example, many would agree that sci-fi and fantasy can go together, or that horror and sci-fi can go together, yet not always is this done well. Caress blends horror and fantasy together magnificently, with a startling amount of paranormal thought as well. She just does it well. No way around it. The more I read, the more I want to know more about her characters and her plot. You will too. Review by S. Daniel Smith Theres a fine line between irreverence and absurdity. Many times, when an author decides to go against the grain and take their narrative outside the box, the reader ends up getting so focused on trying to figure out what in the world is going on that they lose any personal attachment they might have had with the characters. Perverted Realities by Jennifer Caress is an irreverent novel.
Ill admit, for the first dozen pages of Perverted Realities, I was just trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Is this a dream? Is this a description of a cartoon that one of the characters is drawing? Luckily for me, I kept reading and was soon drawn into the relationship between Sammy and Frankie in a very personal way. By the time they start up a paranormal investigation, I was not only captivated by Caresss taut descriptions of a haunted hospital, but was also quite worried about the fate of the two men. The book pivots on a dime for the last segment, roaring into an entirely different framework that involves the strange disappearance of a woman named Cree. Part Ralph-Bakshi-dream-sequence, part dont-turn-off-the-lights chiller, and part X-Files-esque mystery, Perverted Realities by Jennifer Caress is a highly irreverent novel, but its nowhere near absurd dragon scales or no.
